We make Mathenesse!
Will you join us?

The Mathenesse aan de Maas Foundation is there for and by residents. We believe that social cohesion – getting to know each other, meeting and working together – is essential to be able to live comfortably. That is why we connect people with art, culture, stories and activities. Not only residents, but also with professionals who work in the neighborhood. Mathenesse may not (yet) have a top image, but is bursting with potential. Many creative and committed people live there who would like to work for a stronger neighborhood. Together we want to show what is going on – and that is a lot. We make the neighborhood more fun and lively based on five pillars:
  1. Living environment: Cleaner, greener and more social.
  2. Social cohesion: Encounter, connection and culture.
  3. Local economy: Keep assignments within the neighborhood as much as possible.
  4. Positive view of the neighborhood: Show what is going well.
  5. Informing and sharing knowledge: From sewerage projects to workshops and residents’ initiatives.

What do we do?

We organize connecting activities such as the Spring festival, living room concerts and meetings in the neighborhood. We are the payment address for residents’ initiatives (such as via Opzoomer) and support grant applications to bring money into the neighborhood. We act as a service provider, not as a client.

The foundation was founded in 2019 when plans for Nieuw-Mathenesse were on the table. Residents of Oud-Mathenesse and the Witte Dorp then felt passed by. With magazines, webinars and live events in De Fruitvis, among others, we have managed to attract the attention of the municipality and activate residents to think about the future of the neighborhood. Since 2023, the board has been completely in the hands of active residents, with now mainly focus on Oud-Mathenesse and the Witte Dorp.
