Heart of Math
active residents in the spotlight
There are many residents in Mathenesse who roll up their sleeves to make their neighborhood more beautiful, social and fun. We would like to put them in the spotlight with the Heart of Math event.
While enjoying music from talented musicians from the neighborhood, tasty snacks and pleasant conversations, locals get to know each other in a new way. A surprising speed date game brings people into contact with each other who have not yet met. In this way we discovered how many beautiful things are happening in the neighborhood – often due to silent forces behind the scenes.
Our neighborhood poet Wim wrote a poem (in Dutch) especially to celebrate these silent forces:
Oud-Mathenesse
Ingeklemd tussen dijk en spoor,
geef nog wat gas en je bent er al door.
Je denkt: een wijk die God vergat,
een soort afvoerputje van de stad.
Nou lekker dat je ons zo framed,
wacht ik laat je zien wat je in je haast vergeet.
Kijk bij het kodakhuisje, de mensen van de hardloopclub.
We volgen ze langs boomspiegels, de buurttuin en de hub.
Check ook het infobord voor concerten, yoga of taalles.
En jij denkt dat hier niets te doen is?
Voel hoe de grond vibreert,
als op maandag de showband repeteert.
In het huis van de wijk worden plannen gemaakt,
door verbinders en wijkverbeteraars.
Al die vrijwilligers die nooit op het podium staan,
maar zonder hen zou het hart van Math geen seconde slaan.
Hier tussen dijk en spoor,
klinkt de hoop onstopbaar door.
